Cancer Support Meeting

Do you have cancer and are looking for a faith-based support system? Are you a caregiver who is struggling and would like to share your concerns with others who would understand?

Some in our congregation are already dealing with cancer, while others have the responsibilities of being a caregiver. Can you relate? If so, join us this Sunday, February 12th at 12:15 p.m. in the church parlor for a one-hour informal brain-storming session to develop a plan on how we can support each other on this journey and to discuss if a cancer support group is wanted and/or needed at Broad Street.  As we’ll be meeting during the lunch hour, feel free to bring your lunch or snacks to the meeting.

For further information, contact either Joan Wilson or April Lee.

Warming Center News

In the monthly newsletter that was sent out on Thursday and during yesterday’s Worship Service, we shared that Broad Street leadership made the difficult and sad decision to end the Warming Center program and the relationship with the Columbus Coalition for the Homeless. Primary among the concerns that guided the decision was a lack of sufficient staffing in Broad Street’s Warming Center, which often left an already vulnerable population exposed to potential bodily and emotional threats from others in the community. With the decision came the knowledge that there would be a warm place for our neighbors to go and that they would not be sent back out into the streets in the midst of the cold weather.

We truly appreciate all the ways you loved and cared for the many neighbors who found warmth, welcome, and much-needed community in the space at Broad Street, and, as we shared in The Builder, your pastors are excited to see what God is ready to do next in and through Broad Street Church!

Update from Broad Street’s Personnel Committee

At the end of Sunday’s Worship, Jenni Cahill, member of the Personnel Subcommittee, shared the exciting news that our Associate Pastor, Rev. Angie Cox has been appointed to serve full-time at Livingston UMC, as their new Lead Pastor, effective July 1st.

While this news comes with many mixed emotions for us at Broad Street, we celebrate the new appointment for Pastor Angie. Angie will continue her work at Broad Street through the middle of June.
