Rally Day
We kicked off our Fall Programming line-up at Rally Day on Sunday! There were sign-up sheets for 50 unique events, activities, dinner groups, book studies, Bible studies, and volunteer options during the fellowship reception after worship, in Jim Thomas Hall. If you didn’t have a chance to sign up for ways to be involved in the life of Broad Street this fall, the sign-ups will remain in Jim Thomas Hall thru September. We’ll make sign-ups available online next week as well.
Rally Day Means Choir Returns!
Rally Day also marked the return of Chancel Choir from their summer break. They opened the service with great Alleluias from the balcony, and then processed to the choir loft leading the congregation in the day’s only hymn Glory to God, and Praise and Love (#58 in our UM Hymnal). We sang all 17 verses during worship today!
Thanks to Jon Sadler who has stepped in as interim director, working with Gary Everts and Jason Mace to keep the choir blessing us in worship in Gary’s stead.
September Sermon Series
September 10th we studied this saying: “God helps those who help themselves!”
September 17th we’ll consider this one: “God never gives us more than we can handle!”
Join us Sundays in September to learn more about things we’ve often attributed to Jesus, but which Jesus never really said! Sundays 11am, in the sanctuary and online, at 11am.

2023 CROP Hunger Walk
Team Broad Street UMC is registered for the 2023 CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 1 at the Scioto Audubon Metro Park. Registration and opening events begin at 1 PM, with the Walk Kickoff at 2 PM. We are joining the fight against global hunger and poverty, and we’re excited about the impact your steps will have in our community and around the world!

Here’s one reason why…
In many places around the world, neighbors rely on farming or livestock to provide for their families, but they don’t always have the resources to be successful. In Timor Leste, Sebastiana and her husband Jacinto are farmers who struggled to keep food on the table for their family of six. They knew raising livestock would increase their income, but they couldn’t afford to purchase any animals.
Your steps come alongside families like Sebastiana’s to help push them forward.
Through a CWS-supported program, Sebastiana and her family received three chickens, giving them a reliable source of food, but also a way to earn money to get the things they need.
No one person can change the entire world, but together we can help transform the lives of 20, 50 or maybe 100 people like Sebastiana, one step at a time.
CROP Hunger Walks are sponsored by Church World Service (cwsglobal.org), a faith-based organization transforming communities around the globe through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster.
Wednesdays, September 13, 20, 27, and October 4.
When a child comes out to their family, it often raises many questions for both the child and for the family. For example:
What does it mean for the family when a child comes out to their parents?
What does it mean for the parents’ relationship to their church?
What does it mean for the parents’ own faith?
How do parents navigate their own “coming out” after their children have come out to them?
What is the impact on you and your family and especially your LGBTQ+ child with the disaffiliation process taking place currently in some UM congregations?
The sessions are designed to provide a safe space where questions and concerns can be dealt with openly and honestly.
This class will be held on Zoom this fall. The meetings will begin at 7:00 pm and conclude by 8:30 pm.
If you want to participate in the class, please email Jim at jwaugh3@mac.com. Put “Kids Class” in the Subject line. A few days prior to the class session, you will receive a Zoom invitation from Jim for the sessions.
The Rev. Jim Waugh, retired pastor in the West Ohio Conference, will lead the group. Jim and his wife, Carol, have an adult daughter, Lisa, who came out to them over twenty years ago. Jim served a four-year term as the chair of the Parents Reconciling Network Board (a group related to the Reconciling Ministries Network).
If you have questions or need more information, please feel free to email Jim: jwaugh3@mac.com.
