CROP Walk update
On October 1st, thirteen friends from Team Broad Street spent a warm, sunny day at Scioto Audubon Metro Park walking to end hunger and poverty in our community and around the world. We have raised just over $1,000, thanks to your generous support. Fundraising continues throughout October, so there’s still time to donate and help us reach our $1,500 goal. Please donate online at events.crophungerwalk.org/2023/team/Broad-street-UMC or contact Team Captain Shelley Hobson. Please pray for those who struggle daily with food insecurity, so there may be enough for all. Thanks to you, we are making a difference, one step at a time!
“Dinner for Eight” and “Brunch Bunch” groups
Groups are ready to launch. Anyone interested in joining either group, please plan to meet after worship, Sunday Oct 29th in the Sanctuary, for a brief informational meeting.
Election Day Hospitality – November 7
Volunteers needed
Sign-up for a 2-hour shift to greet voters indoors at the church’s “ramp entrance” (Washington Ave) and direct them to the gymnasium for voting. Bring a book, ipad/tablet, knitting/crochet/needlepoint, or other hobby to work on while you’re here welcoming neighbors to our building. The report from the August Election Day volunteers is that it was “fun and easy!” Sign-up on the website at broadstreetumc.net/current-sign-ups
Fall programs and studies will be launching soon.
Keep watching your inboxes for informational meeting dates and times as we prepare to launch fall programs, studies, groups, activities, and volunteer opportunities.
Bible Study begins Oct 22!
Teach Us To Pray: The Lord’s Prayer In the Early Church and Today. This 4-week study will meet Sundays immediately following worship. Bring your lunch and join us as we study The Lord’s Prayer - what it means when we pray it, and why we pray it. No prior Bible knowledge necessary. Books are $15. Sign-up and purchase a book HERE or go to broadstreetumc.net/current-sign-ups. Everyone is welcome!
Legacy Planning Seminar
Join us on November 5, following worship, for lunch and conversation about legacy planning, with United Methodist Foundation of West Ohio Executive Director, Susan Black. Susan will discuss ways every person can make a major charitable impact through their estate planning. Topics will include easy planned gifts, bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, and individual endowments. For questions and RSVP, email: office@broadstreetumc.net
Enemies of Gratitude!
October sermon series.
Throughout October we’ll consider how a misplaced focus – on nostalgia, worry, entitlement, greed, and disappointment – can prevent us from seeing all of life’s blessings right in front of us.
